Mexico: A Fascinating Destination

Mexico is one of the places that I have ever had the pleasure of visiting in my life. I recently had the pleasure of staying in one of the Mexico beach rentals there and I thought I would take this opportunity to write a bit more about a travel destination that has become very close to my heart. I hope you enjoy reading about it.

The beaches

There are a huge number of choices when it comes to beaches in Mexico and it doesn’t hurt that a huge part of mexico lies on the sea. Mexico is fast becoming a destination for beach goers from around the world, but the traditions of beaches in Mexico stretch back a long way. Acapulco, for example, was the beach to go to before we even thought about traveling to the other side of the earth for beaches. It was a place that the rich and famous of the United States loved to visit, among these were people like John F. Kennedy and Frank Sinatra. Cancun is definitely another place that we all know about and is a very good example of another very fine beach in Mexico. If you are keen on beaches there are just so many to explore in Mexico and you could just do this the whole time if you really wanted to!

The food

One of my most favourite things about Mexico is definitely the amazing food. I love how fresh everything is and the hot and spicy food from the Yucatan Peninsula is my absolute favourite. I love eating tacos, guacamole, paletas, sopes and so much more. There is also nothing better than a lot of Yucatan hot sauce to go with that too! Another thing you need to try is definitely the agua frescas, which are a very refreshing drink made from water, fresh fruit and sugar. You can get it in a number of flavours, but my favourites were jamaica (hibiscus flower) or sandia (watermelon). This is a great way to beat the heat, stay hydrated and also to drink something very delicious too!

The history

Mexico has an extremely interesting history, especially with the native people that inhabited it in former times. In particular the Maya and Aztec civilisations, which I find to be extremely fascinating. You can visit many of the former cities of these people and the archaeological sites in Mexico are some of the best I have ever had the opportunity of experiencing. It is fascinating to see places like Tulum, Palenque or Monte Alban. The architecture is something that I will never ever forget, especially with the very geometric shapes that the Maya people used with things like block pyramids and huge stone steps.

The people

Mexicans have a reputation for being warm and friendly, and I found this description of them to be very accurate! I also found them to be very welcoming and helpful. There were of course times when I wasn’t sure where I was and the people were more than happy to help point me in the right direction, even if they couldn’t speak very much English. They tried nonetheless and this is a great testament to the people there. It was very refreshing to see this and we could all learn something from this.
