Somerset – the festival county

Somerset is home to one of the most famous music festivals in the world – Glastonbury – and festivals all over the county have taken inspiration from it. For a family-friendly festival experience, head to the Dulverton Folk Festival. It has performances from popular folk groups, song writing and drumming workshops and great dancing and street entertainment.

For an alternative festival experience, take your family down to the Weston Beach Kite Festival. It’s one of the biggest events of its kind and takes place in the popular beach resort of Weston-super-Mare, which is just 25 minutes from Haven Burnham on Sea.

Turn your eyes to the sky and witness colourful kites of all shapes and sizes strutting their stuff – and if you really want to be inspired, head to a performance by one of the festival’s guest flyers. Their performances with giant 3D character kits and synchronised team routines flown to music are definitely not to be missed.

Finally, if your holidays are about getting active and experiencing the countryside, don’t miss the Langport Walking Festival from 8th-9th June. Walks are 5km, 10km, 20km and 42km and are suitable for all ages and abilities, including families and experienced walkers. The walks start and finish at Langport’s Ridgway Hall and mainly avoid public roads, making them perfect for young children.

Animal Farm Adventure Park

Somerset is in the heart of the countryside, so get close to nature at Animal Farm Adventure Park. It’s set in 23 acres of the beautiful Somerset countryside and has a whole host of animals for you to enjoy, including donkeys, Shetland ponies, llamas, goats, Highland cattle and rare breed sheep.

There’s also an aviary with colourful birds, reptiles, ferrets and exotic animals and a large converted barn with slides, an adventure play area and a climbing area that your kids will love. What’s more, it’s just a short drive from Haven Doniford Bay Holiday Park.

Visit the park on a special themed day and you may even bump into Fireman Sam, Thomas the Tank Engine, Scooby Doo, Bob the Builder or Peppa Pig!
